The new GTC4 Lusso T, is a twin-turbo, V8-engined, rear-wheel-drive derivative that will sit alongside the existing flagship shooting brake.
‘The first thing you need to know about the new GTC4 Lusso T,’ says Ferrari’s head of product marketing Nicola Boari, ‘is that it’s not a GTC4 Lusso with a smaller engine. It’s a completely different car that sits alongside the V12 car.’
So, the new entry-level version ditches the naturally aspirated V12 and Ferrari’s complicated ‘4RM’ four-wheel drive system. In their place you’ll find the company’s recent 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 and a more conventional rear-wheel-drive set-up.
The aim, says Ferrari, is to deliver a lighter, equally thrilling car that’s versatile and suitable for everyday driving. Reputedly, it was developed based on feedback from younger drivers looking for a car with improved versatility, less reliance on all-wheel drive and plenty of in-gear muscle.
What are the key facts and figures for the new GTC4 Lusso T?
The car, which was revealed in full at the Paris motor show, features the 3855cc twin-turbo V8 from the 488 GTB. However, the Lusso T differs in its mechanical specification by using a different air intake system, a new intercooler, different pistons and revised connecting rods. It also, as you’d expect given the different engine location, features a new exhaust system.

The Ferrari 488 GTB is, unsurprisingly, exceptionally fast. Ferrari claims 0-62mph in 3.0 sec, and we’re not inclined to doubt it. The clever bit, though, is the manner of the V8’s delivery. In order to avoid feeling overtly turbocharged, it slowly and progressively builds the torque output, meaning there’s actually more amenable, low-down pulling power available in the higher gears than there is in the first few.
This helps to retain the character of a proper hard-driving and high-revving Ferrari engine, as well as making the 488 surprisingly easy to drive. It will, for example, accelerate (very briskly) from 30mph in sixth gear, and doesn’t require the dual-clutch transmission to downshift from seventh on the motorway to execute very prompt outside-lane overtaking. Okay, the 488 doesn’t sound quite as glorious as Ferraris of yesteryear, but that 3.9-litre V8 engine still makes a hell of a noise.
It’s the added usability that really marks the 488 apart from its predecessor, the stellar 458. Yet, to drive, both cars have a familiar identity to the 488. The new model’s steering remains amazingly quick and responsive, and is connected to a chassis that performs a similarly remarkable change of direction. Crucially, this doesn’t happen with the slightly unfeeling, stability-biased four-wheel-drive Lamborghini Huracán, but with a finesse that gauges body roll, weight transfer and rate of response to the point of near perfection.
Much of the car’s cutting-edge tech – including the latest E-Diff and F1-Trac traction control system – is dedicated to the business of making the 488 manageable without strangling the involving and very lively handling one would expect of a Ferrari. In this respect, the Italian manufacturer is second to none. It even rides remarkably comfortably for a supercar – especially if you press the aptly named ‘bumpy road’ button on the steering wheel.
I drove the DB9 at a driving experience day out. Lovely car, so so comfortable and brilliantly powerful. Only thing I didn’t like (which is why I gave it 4 stars) was the handling. It felt very heavy and seemed to ‘wallow’ (if that is a motoring term) in the corners. The DB9 looks awesome. A fantastic piece of British engineering. It isn’t the best car I have ever driven, my favourite is the Porsche 911 GT3.
I drove this car at a driving experience day. Truly stunning. It was raining all day and the track was soaking. The Lamborghini’s were sliding around on the corners but this beauty just stuck to the road like it was literally glued. Amazing amount of power and just so exhilerating to drive. I haven’t stopped talking about this car and won’t until I own one.
The Ferrari 488 Spyder is an absolutely brilliant piece of machinery, but I feel like that is almost a derogatory introduction for this vehicle. The body’s flirtatious lines bend and shine in all of the right places. The engine, well let’s just say, you’ve never experienced anything like this. The interior was clean. Now to the important part—handling. This car is absolutely magnificent. It clings to every corner and begs for more. It is exactly what you would expect from Ferrari—brilliant, stunning, invigorating!

The ferrari 488 spyder is certainly one of the best looking cars to have recently come out from Ferrari. The shape is similar to the already popular 458. however brings a much more modern presence, with the twin exhausts similar to the 458 Speciale. The engine is a masterpiece, being twin-turbo, however suffering with virtually no lag at all! The gearbox is quicker than you can think to change, along with the out and out power of the car. The interior is true to ferrari, classy whilst still remaining sporty and reminding you, you are in one of the best cars on the market. The car is superb round corners. If you want to havce fun, be prepared to go fully sideways, however switch it into race mode and it grips like the tyres are glue. The 488 is one of the first successful turbo-charged cars to come out of ferrari and for that along makes it special; It shows just how far they have come in creating the most powerful yet efficient engine. What would I change? Not alot! Maybe put a performance exhuast on, as the sound has quietened a bit due to the turbo charged engine. It is by far the best car i have ever driven, when it comes to ticking all the boxes. I have driven faster cars and more powerful cars, but to have the whole package, is rare!
What’s it like?
Phenomenal. Really Phenomenal. And my lord it’s frighteningly fast. 0-62mph of 2.8sec, and I’m prety confident.
Definately reccomended to hire the Lamborghini Aventador SV.
